The One Trade We’ll Always Regret
What if the time you’re chasing is already in your hands?
We often exchange the one thing we truly desire time for the thing we believe will bring us more of it money.
"20 years from now you’d give anything to be this exact age, exactly this healthy, in this exact moment. Take a second to enjoy it." — Richard Webster
We sacrifice time in pursuit of money, hoping that once we have enough, we’ll finally get our time back. We put happiness on hold, chasing success, believing that once we achieve enough, we’ll finally allow ourselves to be happy.
But how often does that moment actually come?
"No matter how much you try to plan, anticipate, or mitigate risks, life is happening now. Even when we think we’re present, a part of us is still looking ahead, worrying about what’s next. We are always solving a problem. And sometimes, we need to let go of that problem, if only for a moment." — Sam Harris
Much of what we do is simply an attempt to justify being present. We seek distractions, whether it’s entertainment, social media, or endless goal-setting, because stillness feels uncomfortable. We chase excitement, not realizing that the ability to be present isn’t something we need to earn.
"If you can’t find peace with a morning coffee, you won’t find it on a yacht."
Think about how often your thoughts drift to worries about the future or regrets from the past. We avoid silence by scrolling through our phones, filling every moment with distractions. We’ve become so accustomed to solving problems that our minds create them simply to have something to fix.
But the only thing you truly have is this moment. And that’s incredible.
You’re alive, right now. How unbelievable is that?
You are a temporary arrangement of atoms that has been given the gift of experiencing existence for a brief moment in time.
You get roughly 4,000 weeks on this planet. Then, like everything else, you fade.
So enjoy it. This isn’t a dress rehearsal.
Until next time,
