Let’s learn together 

What is a System?

Input -> Process -> Output -> Feedback

Input- What is put into the system: time, effort, money, etc.

Process- How/ what needs to be done to get an output.

Output- Whatever result comes from the system, good or bad. 

Feedback- Looking through your outputs and wondering how you can improve the next inputs. 

Now I know what you’re thinking, “How can this possibly help me in my life?”

If the inputs are time and effort,

and the process is what you're working on, 

The output would be your goal,

Your feedback is something you can look at and use to personally fast-track your way to success. 

Which leads straight onto

Why is Systems Thinking so important?

Systems are everywhere, and the more you adopt systems thinking, the more you’ll be 

  • Less attached to the outcome/ result.

  • Make better logical decisions.

  • Input focused. 

Systems aren’t just for managing information, payment processing, or other business-related functions. 

A system is anything you can put inputs into and get an output. 

This Basic System Overview is perfect for breaking down anything you try to achieve into easy, actionable steps. 

So let's brainstorm together…

Suppose your goal was to get a personal record of 100kg on the bench. (Output.)

To get to that output, you’ll probably need a healthy body and work out 3-5 times per week with a good routine. (Process) 

To achieve consistency with your workouts and feel great, you’re going to need to have good sleep, a healthy diet, the discipline to stick to it, etc. (Input)

Considering what weight you’re working out with, how many reps you’re doing, how you’re feeling throughout the day, before, during, and after each session, these are all micro outputs that lead to the big output. (Feedback)

It’s safe to say systems thinking can be applied everywhere. 

Now it’s your turn. 

I want you to work backwards like I just did, from Output to Process to Input to Feedback.

Write each one down and simply answer these questions to build your Success System-

What is my Desired Output?

What will I have to do to get that Output?

How can I prepare to give the best Inputs?

What mini goals/setbacks might I see along the way that can be used for feedback?

Keep in mind that no output is still an output. 

Why?

You're getting no output, or an even worse output, it means something in your system isn’t working, giving you feedback to change. 

Going back to the example, if I am losing strength and slowly getting further from my goal, it means I could be eating wrong, not sleeping enough, not being consistent enough, or just not feeling so good.

This gives me room to change. 

The last thing you need to know before implementing this for yourself is that you need to break down your input and process into daily/ weekly tasks.  

If it’s a big goal that may take years, putting one thing in each spot isn’t very specific, and without clarity comes confusion and procrastination. 

So think of the top 3 most needle-moving tasks that you can do daily/weekly (Process) or prepare yourself to do (Input), that will produce the desired (Output).

That’s it!

Do it. 

Take the time to sit down and think through each question. 

The trick is that if you can be ultra specific about every tiny detail, it will be really difficult to lose…

Or stay where you are, just stuck wondering what to do, knowing you’re procrastinating, but don’t know how to get things done. 

Every day you’re not thinking like this, is another day your competitors are getting better than you... 

So plan out YOUR success system today
